Biography
I work as a senior research associate (post-doc/Oberassistentin) at the Université de Fribourg and as the research assistant of the rector at the St.Gallen University of Teacher Education (PHSG).
In my role as a post-doc researcher at the Department for Multilingualism and Foreign Language Education in Fribourg I conduct research for my habilitation project in foreign language education (focus on language aptitude) as well as various other research and publication projects (e.g., language teacher identities in the third space of higher education institutions, or collaborative writing in multilingual settings). I teach seminars and supervise students' theses at BA and MA level in the areas of foreign language education and German as a foreign language, and engage in various further tasks such as the organisation of the the BA colloquium.
In my role as the research assistant of the rector at the PHSG, I'm involved with various tasks regarding research in tertiary education / teacher education and organisational development, publications, preparation work for consultations launched by various stakeholders and committees such as swissuniversities, various internal projects, etc. For instance, in collaboration with the rectors of the St.Gallen University of Teacher Education and the Zurich University of Teacher Education I have published work on the role and significance of doctoral study programmes for teacher education. I have also worked on literature review and publication projects related to AI in education (AIEd) and its implications for sustainable teacher education institutions.
My educational background is in English and Media Studies (BA, Switzerland), English Literature (MA, UK) and in English language teaching at both upper secondary school and tertiary level in Europe and New Zealand. I received my PhD in foreign language teaching and learning from the Université de Fribourg. Since then, I have presented and published research mainly centered around conceptualising, developing, assessing and testing Teacher Language Competence taking a range of different perspectives, and have collaborated trans-institutionally and internationally with researchers from Switzerland, Germany, and New Zealand. Courses I have taught or am currently teaching include:
- Analyse von Lehrwerken und Lernmaterialien (MA DaF-seminar, University of Fribourg, autumn 2022, 2023 and 2024)
- Innovationen und Traditionen beim Sprachenlehren und -lernen [Masterveranstaltung Didaktik 3] (BA DaF-seminar, University of Fribourg, autumn 2024)
- Individuelles Lern-/Lehrprojekt für Studierende deutscher Muttersprache II (BA DaF-seminar, University of Fribourg, spring 2023 and 2024)
- BA Sprachkurs III: DaF für Lehrpersonen (BA DaF-seminar, University of Fribourg, autumn 2023)
- Sprachlehrkompetenz: Berufssprachliches Handeln im Unterricht verstehen, reflektieren und optimieren (MA DaF-seminar, University of Fribourg, spring 2023)
- Current Topics in English Studies (elective BA-MA seminar, St.Gallen University of Teacher education, autumn 2019, 2020 and 2021)
I am part of various committees and associations, such as the DGFF, EALTA, ALTE, Vals-Asla, Ledafids, GEBF, earli and SSG/SSL. Furthermore, I am the coordinator of the EALTA special interest group (SIG) "Academic Purposes" and co-host joint meetings with the EALTA SIG "Assessing Writing" at the annual EALTA conferences - two subjects of inquiry I have been involved with for several years since co-creating and launching a self-paced online resource on academic writing for first-year university students ("write@uni", https://flexiblelearning.auckland.ac.nz/writeatuni/) while working as an English language learning advisor at The University of Auckland (2015-2017). In addition, I have facilitated academic writing / academic publishing workshops as professional development for teacher educators and writing retreats for doctoral students in Switzerland.
My research interests are in foreign language teaching and learning, applied linguistics, plurilingualism, language aptitude, language testing, LSP testing, (academic) writing, educational assessment, feedback processes, AI in education (AIEd), teacher education, and higher education / organisational development.
