Abstract
Regarding its argumentation strategies, the construction of difference by the proponents of thepopular initiatives on the ban on Jewish ritual slaughter (1893) and the ban on minarets (2009) shows striking similarities. Jews as well as Muslims were excluded as « non-Christian » « others » from Swiss society, meant to live under an inferior legal-societal status. This paper presents four sources for classes in history or political education. The sources are contextualized in a broader analysis of the topic.
